Take the workshop: 7 Ways To Keep Your High Schooler on Track
This practical workshop will give parents strategies to improve their kids’ study habits right away.

8 Practical Ways to Catch Up in Math

1️⃣ Saxon or Shormann Math

  • Earn a built-in Geometry credit while moving through the sequence.

2️⃣ Dual Enrollment

  • Each college semester = one high school year.
  • Example: College Algebra (fall) + Pre-Calc (spring) = 2 years in 1.

3️⃣ Flexible Online / Short-Term College Options

  • ASU Online: 8-week, 16-week, or self-paced one-year math courses.
  • Toccoa Falls College: 8-week terms in fall, spring, or summer.
  • Many colleges offer similar accelerated options.

4️⃣ Summer Math Intensive

  • Dedicate summer to math only.
  • Recover a full credit without adding to the school-year load.

5️⃣ Block Scheduling at Home

  • Try 2 lessons/day for a few months.
  • Great for students who learn best in bursts.

6️⃣ Online Programs & Tutors

  • Programs that can help you catch up: CTCMath, Teaching Textbooks, Khan Academy.
  • Short-term tutoring can boost confidence and fill gaps.

7️⃣ Credit-by-Exam

  • For students who already know the material.
  • Test out and earn credit without re-taking the course.

8️⃣ Adjust the Transcript Plan

  • Not every path requires Calculus.
  • Example sequence: Algebra → Geometry → Algebra 2 → Consumer/Financial Math or Statistics

Key Takeaway

  • Falling behind in math is not the end of the world.
  • With creativity and planning, your teen can:
    • Catch up,
    • Build confidence,
    • Stay on a path to success.
