A quick introduction!

Here is a little bit about me.  I started homeschooling my kids when my oldest daughter was in preschool. It was a little “experiment” to see if I could do it. Now, 17 years later, we have one in college, one in high school, and two in middle school.  Here’s a pic of my family:

We are just an average family, much like all of you. We have a messy home, leaky pipes, way too many books, piles of stuff that needs to be gone through, projects left unfinished, etc. We have dogs that poop in the house and kids that walk right on by and don’t even notice that there is poop on the carpet!!!   Can you relate?

My friends seem to think I’m an organized person. And while that may be true, I’m convinced that no amount of organization and scheduling in your home will really matter in the long run if your student is not prepared for LIFE.

When I started homeschooling, I read a book called the Field Guide to Homeschooling. It’s still on Amazon. You can find it used from sellers for $3!  In one of the chapters, the author discusses knowing WHY you are homeschooling. So I copied down her notes and came up with my list of 20 reasons why I am homeschooling.  One day I will blog on this!

And when I had really bad days, (TRUST me, You are going to have some really bad days!), I pulled out my list and looked at it. It gave me focus and helped me look at the long-term picture.

One of my main goals was to launch my kids as mature adults into the world.  What about you?

Do you have a clear plan for launching your young adult into adulthood? Are you unsure of where to place your focus? Do you feel you are just running the rat-race and not accomplishing the important things in your home?  Do you want to be more intentional in your parenting?

I would love to hear what you think! Hit reply or leave a comment below and let me know what struggles you have in getting your kids ready to leave home? What is your biggest challenge? Where do you need the most help and most elbow grease?  Can’t wait to hear from you!

I have the same goal with my girl. 🙂 I also want her to be realistically prepared for ‘real life’ in adulthood. When she talks about a specific career- I talk with her about what is involved school-wise, or we research together what degrees/certifications are required. Right now she doesn’t want to go to college (Daddy is Agast :/ or maybe I should say ‘horrified’). She wants to become a Vet Tech and a Farrier. I have told her this summer we will research and find out at which age she can attend farrier school, what is involved in being a vet tech and what kind of money they make. I also want her to do a ride-along so she can see up-close what a farrier does in a typical day.
I also pray -not enough, but I’m trying to do more of that- for her future.
On a separate note, Michelle, you Rock. 🙂

That sounds like a great start! Always good to look at what’s involved when considering a career field! Thanks!
