Here are some resources to use for Week 7.

Philosophy:
Some Christians want to make the world all kittens and sweetness and light. Others tend to lean toward the dark side: grunge, dark music, dark clothes, etc. In reality, the world is both. We need to remember that God is both gentle and tender with us, and He is also mighty and strong. Verses to help you think about these issues: Isaiah 40:9-31, Romans 11:33-36.

We are learning about Locke. Here are some questions to discuss with your student. Do newborns have ideas? Can you know truth without experiencing it?  What did Locke think about property rights? How does this go with our history?  If anyone is struggling with the very factual and not very fluffy book, try going to www.sermonaudio.com and type in the chapter title/philosopher you want to listen to.

Shakespeare / Poetry:
Find and read “When I Consider How My Light is Spent” by John Milton

Here’s a youtube recording of T. S. Eliot’s Gus: the Theatre Cat, a long, rhyming poem.  T.S. Eliot was a Christian poet who was friends with C.S. Lewis and Tolkien.     https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=nhgvTNUUo28

History:
Ask your student what they think of Thomas Jefferson now? Ask if they remember what J. F. Kennedy said regarding Thomas Jefferson. Ask them about the War of 1812 – who won and what was won because of the war. (That’s a trick question.) And then what were some results because of the war?  Fun parts of history this week were: Burr and Hamilton’s duel, Dolly Madison saving the art at the White House, and Andrew Jackson’s Battle of New Orleans.

Chemistry:
