Hi. I am a Challenge III Tutor in Georgia. This is my blog. I’ve decided to start a weekly category post on Challenge III Resources. This should help Directors, Students, and Parents with extra tips and videos to explain harder concepts and add some fun into their curriculum!  (Not every subject will have extra resources each week. Occasionally, links may be affiliate links. Click here for my disclosure policy.

In case we haven’t met in person, we can “virtually” meet here!

Latin:

Get the Memrise app. Set it up on your PC and connect Henle Latin I and/or Henle Latin II flashcards to it. Then put the app on your phone/ipad and start having fun practicing vocabulary!  You can practice on your PC or your device. I even have it on my Kindle! I’ve learned 127 Latin words so far using this awesome app.

Also, I highly recommend getting a Latin family membership at www.dwanethomas.com. You will then have access to all his lessons for Henle Latin I and II.

Math:

This article is a great summary of how important math is and the value it can bring.

Here’s a link to how to do Word Problems on the ACT. We use this in my class for a fun discussion on strategy for figuring out word problems.

Philosophy:
If you have not seen Louie Giglio’s message on Laminin, it is fabulous and really inspiring. Great to watch as a whole family! Perfect for discussing who holds everything together?
Here’s the link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSR8z_0uW5E

Also perfect for those of you studying biology with other kids in your home this year.

Things to discuss with your student:  Are you being or becoming? What does that mean? Does God change?  What one thing did different philosophers think holds the earth together? Who REALLY holds all things together?  (Col 1:17!)

What were the 3 things the ancients were trying to solve: Life, Motion, Being. See if you can find these three things in the speech Paul spoke to the Athenian philosophers in Acts 17. He spoke in their language!

I heard a podcast that talked a lot about our Chapter 1 discussion regarding being/becoming and how man is searching for the arche, the one thing that is the ultimate reality. This podcast also mentions mathematics and Shakespeare! https://rzim.org/let-my-people-think-broadcasts/the-word-of-god-in-creation-part-1/  And also this segment on The World and Everything in it that mentions the quintessence, the one thing that holds everything together. https://worldandeverything.org/2018/08/janie-cheaney-blessed-dust/

Shakespeare/Poetry:

Here’s a great poem to inspire you for this school year! “Don’t Quit” by Edgar Guest.

Great intro video to Shakespeare where a lot of famous people and students were quoting lines. Hopefully, this will inspire them to start memorizing their 30 lines from Much Ado.

What is anaphora? You can find it in this poem, “She Ruled in Beauty O’er this Heart of Mine.

History:
Here are some great questions to ask your student for this week’s history chapter: Ask your student why the Spanish were so adept at settling the Southwest and how they accomplished it.  Ask them how the French settled in America and what were their problems. Ask them how the British settled and where they settled? We studied the first 12 colonies this week so they should know some about each of those.

Chemistry:

Here are two great intro videos on Chemistry.
