Here are some resources for Challenge III, fall semester, Week 4. Not all subjects may have resources or questions. I will be editing as time goes on. Occasionally, links may be affiliate links. Click here for my disclosure policy.

Math:
I recommend the Red REAL Act book for studying for the ACT.  This is a great book for practice tests for the ACT. My daughter increased her score a lot by using this to take practice tests and review what she got wrong.

Here is a list of all the types of math problems on the ACT.   http://blog.prepscholar.com/whats-tested-on-act-math-concepts-subjects-and-skills

Philosophy:
Talk with your student about how God still is speaking today, just in ways that are hard to hear if we don’t stop to notice. Everything that comes into our lives does so by the design of the Master Storyteller. Talk about how we are characters in His play. What kind of character are you? Are you the character people love or hate? Would you want to play a different part? Do your actions /words reflect the kind of character you want to be? Talk about how Christ is the perfect role model character for us.  Consider whether God is continuing to “speak” creation or not even today. Verses to consider are: Col 1:15-18, Heb 1:1-4, Acts 17:24-28  Discuss the trials of life: big and small. Who are in you the story? What trials have you faced? How did you respond?
Ask them who were the Stoics? What did they believe?  “whatever will be, will be.”
Ask them what they know about the Epicureans, the Skeptics, Plotinus, Neoplatonists, and Augustine’s beliefs about truth, God and his definition of evil.

Shakespeare/Poetry:
Ask your student to tell you what the first wedding was like and what was the reaction of all the different characters to Claudio’s accusation of Hero.  Here’s a great link to the “Kill Claudio” scene.

History:
Here is a link that has some history questions for you to focus on: http://www.patriotshistoryusa.com/teaching-materials/secondary-homeschool/   Click on the ones that say secondary objectives. There are 3 files : 1-10, 11-16, and 17-22.  If you want to go through some of the questions for reviewing any of the previous chapters that would be great.  You don’t have to write anything out, just think through it in your head how you would answer this question.  This is a good way to see if you are retaining the chapter you have read.

I have found that Khan Academy has a section on U.S. History. If you are a visual learner, you might enjoy watching these videos along with your chapter. I thought the one on the Constitution was good and worth my time.  Don’t forget the John Adams video series on Prime. Excellent tie ins to the history book.

Chemistry:
There is a Quizlet list for memorizing the elements if you have access to that.

Click here to go to Week 5.

Blessings,

Michelle
