Hey y’all. I finally feel like I have my mo-jo back after such a crazy two months. Boy, having a family crisis can hit you hard!  This week, I thought I’d share with you some things I tried to help me get back to being productive.

But first, if you haven’t taken the time to take my survey for 2019, I would love it if you could. I’ve been so enjoying reading all the responses!  It’s really helping me hone what content I will be posting and projects I am planning for this year.  I hope to produce content that will meet YOU where you are and provide a great service for you this year. The survey should take about 2 minutes and it only has 4 questions!

Take The Survey

What is your biggest problem with parenting teens?
Take my 2019 Survey and tell me what’s your greatest struggle?

Now on to the real-deal lessons I’ve learned about coming out of a crisis time.  Crisis can hit any family. It could be someone has a car wreck, or the stomach bug takes it toll throughout the house. In our case, it was the sickness and death of a loved one who needed someone to be with them during their last days.

After I came home from the funeral, I had breakfast with a dear friend. We had scheduled this time way back in December and I sure wasn’t going to miss it.  We talked about our families and the holidays and she listened to my story of all that went on over Christmas. It was a lot!

What about you?

Then she said, “What about you? How are you taking care of yourself?”

I said, “Well, I took Tuesday off.”

She said, “THAT IS NOT ENOUGH!!” Empatically!

Next, she convinced me I needed to give myself more time. She also said that she knows me as an extremely productive person and that one way to get my mo-jo back would be to start trying to be productive again. Most importantly, though, she told me that I shouldn’t rush it. Take my time and slowly ease back into life. This family crisis had taken a toll and I needed to give myself grace.

So, I took her up on that and these are some steps I took to get back to the real world after the crisis.

Five Ways To Get Back to Productivity After A Crisis

Getting Your Productivity Back
5 Ways to Get Your Productivity Back After A Crisis
1. Work Half-Days.

First of all, try to get up and get dressed early in the day and work until lunch. Also, remove any distractions while you are working – like your phone or social media. Then you will feel as if you got something done and can rest for the afternoon.

2. Rest.

Yes, you need it. Even if you felt you rested some during the crisis. Your body needs to regain strength and energy – if not physical, then emotional. So, set some times for resting, whether that’s just lying down, watching TV, reading, or sleeping. Have some down time. Because you need to regroup. As a result, you will feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally and you will be more stable to face the day.

3. Pick one thing and do it.

Just getting started with doing one priority task will help you.  Make a list of what to do next and pick the most important thing. If you are able to get this one thing done, it will do a lot for helping you feel productive.

4. Tidy Up

Go through the house and just pick up and put away. You may not have the energy to clean anything just yet, but putting some things back in their places will give your spirit a lift. Do the same for your office/desk. Go through mail and bills. Organize them in order by date due. Take care of anything that is urgent.

5. Sort Out.

Finally, sometimes after a crisis, you may feel the need to sort out and streamline. This is good. Get a box or basket for donations and try to put something in it every day.  Streamline your activities – don’t just jump back into everything. Slowly get used to your regular routine and schedule. Add one thing back into your routine each week. And don’t be afraid to tell others you just can’t come to something right now.

To conclude, these are the things that helped me get my motiviation back after my family crisis. Do you have any other ideas you can share? Post in the comments.

I’m starting a new blog series next week which will cover researching colleges. I’m going to show you what I am doing step-by-step to research colleges and hopefully find a good fit for my student! Besides, I know you’ve got plenty of time on your hands to add this to your do list, right? Maybe my tips will help you get a head start.
