Well, we now have a new president. Whether you are happy or saddened or don’t care about this new change in our country, I have some news for you. During the coming year you will face disappointment. How to deal with disappointment when launching your teen. Share on X
Ways You Might Have Disappointment:
Your spouse, your job, your kids behavior or how they are handling their school work might disappoint you.
You might be disappointed with their GPA, their ACT or SAT score, or their lack of motivation to do anything that requires work.
The news or current events might disappoint you.
You might be disappointed with a law that is passed or not passed.
The stock market might disappoint you.
Your insurance coverage and the bills piling up might disappoint you.
Something is going to happen and you’re going to be faced with disappointment.
What You Can Do About It:
Can we do anything about our disappointment? Well, not much. Most of the things that disappoint us are things we can’t control.
But, the Bible says that we are to not let our hearts be troubled in John 14:1. I find this verse extremely comforting because the word “let” means it is our choice. We can choose not to allow our hearts to be troubled. Let me say it again: it’s a choice.
Recently, I had a health scare and I was in the ER for 10 hours. While I was there, I didn’t want my children to be afraid or worried about me so I chose to be happy and funny and send them gifs and memes so that they would not worry. And this helped me also not worry and just keep my spirits up while I waited the long wait. I told my husband stories about the people who were sharing their own, “what are you in for?” anecdotes in the ER holding room.
Make A Choice:
It all comes down to how we live our life. Are we going to be bitter, sad, and grumpy? Or are we going to choose to let our hearts not be troubled because we know whom we have believed. We put our trust in Him because He is in charge of all things and nothing escapes His hand.
I hope you find this encouragment today as you are working with your kids and helping them launch into college. No matter what happens, you can choose to face it with a happy heart and full of joy and strength.
My word for the year is “strength.” I recently bought a bracelet to wear that has “strength” engraved on the bracelet. I love it because it constantly reminds me to face my day in the strength I have found in my faith in the Lord.
Sometimes at this time of year, it’s really easy to feel down, depressed, and overwhelmed. If this is you, you might find encouragement in my book called, The Overwhelmed Mom: A 10-Day Devotional and Action Plan. It’s priced very low on Kindle right now. You might also like some of my favorite resources for homeschooling and parenting.
I wish you many blessings as you are trying to help your teens start their path. Please reply and let me know if I can help you in any way.
Blessings,
Michelle
